This is an elegantly done video about how the scale of the human enterprise has grown to completely dominate the planet. I have just one bone to pick with it – the assumption that our world population will grow to 9 billion and so we must adjust our technology and culture to accommodate that. Nine billion is not a foregone conclusion. It doesn’t have to happen. It will only happen if we sit idly by and assume there is nothing we can do about it. I would prefer we at least leave open the possibility that we will wise up and do the easiest, smartest thing we can do to become a sustainable civilization: end population growth as soon as possible (that means start tomorrow!).
