Sometimes the simplest observations about human nature get right to the heart of the matter.
People Keep Making People is a song, and now a video, that does just that. A big hats-off to Lynsey Jones, associate producer on the
GrowthBusters movie, who out of the blue sent us this fun mash-up to bring this song to life. She told me she happened across this song, and the inspiration hit her. She just had to do it. This seems like a perfect time to present it to the world, as we approach World Population Day July 11.
We are encouraging you to create your own videos about overpopulation. Upload them to YouTube and send us a link in the comment section of one of our posts. We’ll then share it with the world.
The song was written and performed by Jay McAllister, a British folk musician who goes by the name of Beans on Toast. You can explore his music at:
I asked Lynsey to interview Jay for us, and here is the result:
What prompted you to write People Keep Making People?
The song was the result of a conversation i had whist stuck in a traffic jam. Someone explained to me the theory that many of the worlds problems are all down to the one problem – too many people. I guess it makes sense….. it was also the reason for the traffic jam.
Is overpopulation something you are concerned about?
Sure I am, but I’m also have a built in urge to reproduce….
Do you think most people are aware of the issues surrounding overpopulation?
No I don’t, I would imagine that most people wouldn’t consider it as a huge problem or see that it’s linked to so many other problems. That being said I think everyone has general feelings of the world being in quite a f***ed up state right now and that it’s do or die…..
If you could have one wish about world population, what would it be?
For the whole population to be happy, healthy and have enough room. World peace, the whole shebang.
