“If New Zealanders can’t breed enough future working taxpayers all by themselves, then they’d better import them from elsewhere….”
New Zealand journalist Michael Coote wrote this piece promoting immigration to both Australia and New Zealand. His words reveal and illustrate the all-too-common growth pusher attitude toward people. We are not human beings. We are taxpayers, consumers, laborers – pawns to be bred or “imported” to drive an economy. I find this attitude insulting, dehumanizing and disgusting.
Such Ponzi demography is an utterly ridiculous approach to maintaining a sustainable economy. The healthy economy of the 21st century is not one that is hell-bent on perpetual expansion. It is one that has figured out how to live within its means. It is a stable, or steady-state economy, which requires a stable population.
Mr. Coote, we’re calling you out. We’re not drinking the pro-growth Kool-Aid anymore.
